Globalization
Basically the
Globalization is a process of interaction and integration among the people and
companies and among the different governments. Nowadays it is widely used to
describe the interdependence of the world’s economies, cultures, and
populations which was brought about by cross-border trade in good- services as
well as in technology. In this era of globalization Cities become a kind of
core for them to develop their global strategy. This part of the globalization,
particularly how it affected the India, is well reflected in the novel. The
novel takes place in fast growing city Hariyana. The very much essence of competition
among the young generation and their endless efforts to climb up the ladder of success
is the era of globalization is well presented in the novel. Youngsters, working
in call centre named themselves differently than their originally names in order
to sound their names globally. Here is the list of characters…

With the
globalization, the awareness regarding the use of technology among the youth
exposed India to the new level. In the novel we have call centres employees who
are techno-friendly. While working in
the call centre they all have to work with computer screens and have to handle
the calls. Indeed, they can tackle with it very easily. Along with being techno-friendly,
the characters in this novel are trendy as well. But then even in the global world reality is that, Fackness is celebrated.
“The global
trend has not left the society untouched. Due to free incoming of
values, costumes, dresses and living habits of western world, the basis of Indian
culture has been greatly influenced”.(P.Sam, and G.Sam.1051)
Though the conecept of globalization provides a huge scope for young generation of India,it also makes them to serve them as they want them to do. Shashi Tharoor pointed out this notion while in reviewed on Bhagat's ON@TCC.
"For Bhagat, it turn out, doesn't like call centres. He sees them as soul-destroying sweatshops, soacking up the talent and energies of young Indian who could and should be doing better for themselves and their country"
Self-help book
Life is not
that much steady forward, we used to think in our fantasy world; it’s not like
a steady water of ocean, rather it is like a flowing water of river, we do not
know when it takes turn.
Basically the main intention of the self help book is to instruct reader at the end of the novel by providing them path for coming out from their problems. Along with it realistic representation of society,it also falls under self help book. In the novel, all the characters are facing a one or another kind of problems in their life. Nowadays lots of videos and books about motivational ideas are coming up. There are several books written on the same motivational idea such as, The 7 habits of Higly Effective People by Stephen.R.Covey, The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale, How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie, You can win by Shiv Khera.
Protagonist character Shyam is unhappy in his life as he lost his love, while Radhika is unhappy in her married life because of demanding mother in law and Military Uncle is not happy because he wanted to talk with his grandson. In such way all have a certain kinds of problems, among this difficult situation call from God, in a fact voice of inner call enables them to see a new path beyond that difficult situation. In such way it provides a new path to all the characters through the God’s call as well as instruct us at last, so we can consider it as a self help book.
