Mass Media and Communication



In this world it seems impossible for human being to live without communication, here I am not talking about the business oriented communication. It is the fact that no human being can survive without doing communication to others. In a sense to communicate with other, is a necessary of human being to express their thoughts, emotions and so on. Thus it is the general meaning of communication. If we look at its literally meaning, it can be defined as…

"… the two ways process of sending and receiving messages either in verbal or non verbal meanings by including speech, oral communication, writing or graphical presentations."

According to Stoner and Wankel,
“Communication is the process by which people attempt to share meaning via the transmission of symbolic messages.

What we can understand by mass media and mass communication?

Though the mass media and mass communication is interlinked, there is a certain difference. In the process of communication these two plays a vital role. Basically Mass communication refers to the process of spreading information to the masses or while mass media refers to the tools which are widely used in the process of spreading information to the masses(groups).  

In the present modern society mass communication contributes a vital role, as it allows to communicate in larger context by using mass media. Here are certain tools of mass communication.

Newspaper
Social media
Radio
Film
Television
Web series
Internet
Hoardings
Advertising
Computer

These are the certain tools which allow to communicate in the larger context. Nowadays  in our day to day life we use whatsapp, facebook, instagram or any other tools like these to exchange our thoughts or information as well. Being a student of literature I also used certain apps such as Yourquotes to express my thoughts or feelings. Among all of them internet and mobile as an equipment of communication can become very useful. As we know that mobile is a very handy tool it allows to communicate in larger extend only by accessing internet in it.

In nutshell, television and radio as mass media works more effectively among non educated people also, while an educated one by using internet can communicate in more efficient way. Indeed, in this digital world mass media plays a vital role in mass communication.
