Thinking activity on Existentialism

This blog is a part of my thinking activity. CLICK HERE to get the link..

Here I am pointing out some of the thoughts which I like the most in given videos on Existentialism.

1.  What is Existentialism?

Though existentialist differ in their views on Existentialism but in a one or another way they share a basic belief of this term. From this video I like that triangle idea of freedom, individuality and passion which are the three sides of Existentialism. Along with it, the idea of philosophical suicide is quite interesting.

2.   The Myth of Sisyphus : The Absurd Reasoning

Basically people think that their life is full of absurdity and dying is ultimate solution of it. But is it? It is mentioned in the video that human wants divorce from life and wants to make death mistress. This may show the human desire rather human fear for death. Suicide is an individual act. Suicide seems as it is a result of our absurd thought process.

3.    The notion of philosophical suicide

It’s a worth watching video to understand the concept of Philosophical suicide. . When we start to kill our own self as philosopher at that time it becomes Philosophical  suicide. Why the absurdity takes place? It takes place because of the conflict between human and world. If there are no human beings, there would not be any desire. Without human being there should not be the question of absurdity. It can be said that absurdity is an ultimate reality of human life but at the same time for an absurd mind reason is useless and there is nothing beyond reasons. In this situation may our reliance be the ultimate solution of absurdity.

4.    Dadaism, Nihilism and Existentialism

In this human world we follow the values that are given by other, it may also happens that they also have not any  particular meaning of life. In a way no one have their own values. Among this sheepish mentality, Dadaism movement is a new assistance which demands for change or to encourage to create something new. In nutshell, Dadaism neglected the values emphasized by other. It is a quest for change.

5.    Existentialism – a gloomy philosophy

Existentialism came after the second world war when the people tried to find meaning of life among gloominess of despair .Though the life is full of anxiety, despair and absurdity, we are free to give our own values to ourselves. But after following whatever we have chosen it’s become one’s own responsibility. The result should be either in favour or in against but escapism in bad situation should not be there. Being individual is also considered as narcissist but in actual it’s not true.

6.    Existentialism and Nihilism: Is it one and the same?

Existentialism is not a philosophical movement nor a set of doctrines. Rather it is classified as a philosophical movement. Divine perspective comes with belief in immortality which ignores the morality as an important notion of human perspective. Existentialism has more concerned with subjectivity while Nihilism has more concerned with objectivity.

7.    Existentialist again!

Existentialists reject systems which propose to have define answers to the questions of meaning and purpose in life. Generally it questions the human existence.

8.    Existentialism and Nietzsche

Nietzsche gave idea of “Ubermensche” which is widely liked by children. “Ubermensche” suggest s to make free choice as well as freedom to do anything. We are free to build our own values and take our own decision. In a way it suggest to create own morality rather to follow the others.

9.    Why I like Existentialism? Eric Dodson

Existentialist discuss about the darker side of human life by exploring anxiety, dread and death as existentialist thinkers are much more straight forward than average thinkers. Through this Existential sensibility we can understand the meaning of life in deeper way.

10.From Essentialism to Existentialism

In this video there is an example of an army man who wants to serve his mother and nation at the same time but it’s not possible to serve them at the same time. No one gives answer to him  as it’s matter of an individual choice. Because it is an individual choice to make their decision or follow the path suggested by others. There is no answer until we choose for us. Individual meaning to our life is given by only us as well as truly authentic decision can only be made by one's own moral code.

Which Video I Like the Most and Why?

From the above mentioned videos I like the last video most. This video provides us a view to ponder on how to live life with authenticity by finding our own path, meaning and essence of life. It puts more emphasizes on an individual identity. It is necessary to find our own identity in order to differ from other or the path which are followed by the larger community.
